The PIAA released the official brackets for the 2018 AAA State Wrestling Championships. Wrestling begins at the Giant Center on Thursday in Hershey.
The regional finals concluded on Saturday night at the Altoona High School Field House. Clearfield had three wrestlers compete in the finals and consolation finals, and they all did their home town proud. The day was action packed, each wrestler had their own story to tell, and there were life lessons to be learned for all in attendance.
Of the eight Bison wrestlers who made it to the Northwest Regional AAA Wrestling Championships, two made it to the semi-finals on Saturday.
The Class AAA Northwest Regional Wrestling Tournament opens today with 27 area competitors looking to navigate their way through their respective weight classes in hopes of keeping alive their dreams of winning a state medal.

While Clearfield certainly had its positive and negative outcomes over the weekend, there was no contesting the best outcome of the night being Bison senior Luke McGonigal (29-0) simultaneously tech-falling/pinning his finals opponent before he jumped up and flashed four fingers on both of his hands.
Tuesday night was nothing short of breathtaking. The seats were packed. There were prizes, drawings, and auctions. A short video was played going over the details of Emily Whitehead’s journey as she defeated cancer. A giant check was presented. Oh yeah, there was a wrestling match, too! And to boot, it was senior night.
On Tuesday night the Clearfield Bison and Philipsburg-Osceola Mountie wrestling teams will join forces to “Take Down Cancer - One Match at a time”, in the Arthur J. Weiss Gymnasium at the Clearfield High School.
Clearfield wrestled in the District 4/9 Team Championships this past weekend, where they fell short to the eventual champion, the Shikellamy Braves. Clearfield came into the tournament as the third seeded team, and Shikellamy was the second seed.
The Clearfield Bison enjoyed some success over the weekend, as they traveled to West Branch to participate in a grueling 31 team tournament.
