Border Brawl 2019
Team Pennsylvania won 14 of 17 bouts – including four by fall – in a 57-12 victory over Team Maryland/West Virginia on Sunday in the Border Brawl Mason-Dixon Wrestling Classic at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
Penn Cambria's J.C. Smychynsky won the Nick Roberts Memorial Award as Pennsylvania's outstanding wrestler after he pinned West Virginia state champion Austin Gibson at 170 pounds.
Southern Garrett's Hunter Park picked up the Tom Patterson Memorial Award as Team Maryland/West Virginia's outstanding wrestler. He pinned Richland's Eric Wagner at 210 pounds.
Jared McGill of Chestnut Ridge won the feature bout at 182 pounds, as the state champion and Pitt recruit pinned Anthony Carman of John Marshall, a West Virginia state champ who has committed to wrestle at WVU.
The meet helped to raise funds for the family of wrestling official Aaron Elliott, whose son Jeremiah's cancer is in remission but who recently broke his surgically repaired leg.
Pennsylvania has won all four Border Brawl events.
